Dear Walker Elementary School Community,
My name is Regina Serbin and I am your principal. I and the Walker Team hope you and your loved
ones are happy and healthy at this time. We are looking forward to a successful school year!
Our goal for our Eagles is to help create a learning community in which all students are included
and supported to ensure that every child has the resources, teachers, and interventions they need
to be successful. Our job as educators is to provide every learner the opportunity to grow as a
leader, citizen, and individual. We firmly believe in and embrace our San Diego Unified vision: “All
San Diego students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to
succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society
of tomorrow.”
This year, we have many exciting things happening! We are a Leader in Me school: this
evidence-based model focused on leadership, culture, and academics that equips students,
educators, and families with the leadership and life skills needed to thrive in a dynamic world. We
are a No Place for Hate school: this means that we are breaking down bias by championing
equitable and inclusive classrooms. We are also a Purple Star school: we seek to reduce the
burden on military-connected students and their families by providing critical transition support.
Finally, we are a Community School: we use a whole-child approach to education, meaning that
we are caring for more than each student’s academic learning; we’re supporting their
social-emotional, physical, and mental well-being, too.
Good attendance habits are the key to a successful school year. Attendance is IMPORTANT!
Students who miss school… MISS A LOT! They miss the academic and social experiences and
connections that other children are having. Please partner with us to start a habit of being on time,
present, and ready to learn!
To our Walker Eagles, I cannot wait to see you all again and to meet our new learners!
I welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year as we focus on our students’
